 Practicalities

Where are the Beach Pads Beach Houses?
The Three Beach Pad’s Beach Houses sit directly upon Porthkidney Sands Beach in Lelant, St.Ives, Cornwall, UK

How can we book all three houses together?

Either through the “Book Now” button on the website or please email us at hello@beachpads.co.uk

We will reply swiftly!

Yes, we can accept a booking for all three properties at the same time for a large group. The best advice is for guests to book each property in the name of the lead person staying in a particular house. During Covid this worked best for Holiday Insurance Purposes. It also means that the people in the particular property are involved in the booking process.

Do we need to book all three houses?

Our Beach Houses is often booked individually.

How many guests do the Beach Houses sleep?

The three houses combined can sleep up to 22 guests depending upon the number of adults and children sharing beds in the group. Typically, Beach House up to 5 persons. Ferryman’s Rest 8 persons and Ferry House 7 persons. Please contact us if you need to understand the bedroom configuration.

Are the houses near to each other?

Yes the houses are adjacent to each other.

Are the houses private from each other?

Yes, each house has its own entrance gate and separate space that doesn’t overlook each other. There are no other properties at the location.

How far is the parking?

There is no vehicle parking at the property because it sits on the beach. Guests can park for free at St Uny Church, or the Owners can help organise parking on the Neary quay, 200 to 250 meters along the beach.

Is it difficult to walk to the properties?

Those with mobility issues should be aware that it is a 200/250m walk to the houses. It is downhill from St Uny Church or alternatively, a beach walk and then somewhere steps up from the beach from the nearby quay. We have often hosted guests in the 80s and 90s. For those that need to take it easy walking down hill in and along the beach out works well. Guests with long term illness such as multiple sclerosis, have used a folding “festival” type stall to assist with taking rest stops when necessary. They said that it was well worth the effort to then always be at the beach during their holiday.

The Beach

Is the beach dog friendly?

Yes, Porthkidney Beach welcomes dogs all year round, the houses are a wonderful place to bring dogs. They love it!

Does the beach have a blue flag?

Porthkidney Beach is known for its clean, sandy environment. This designated bathing water has achieved Excellent classification in 2025.  Whilst Porthkidney Beach doesn’t apply for a blue flag status, its neighbouring beach Carbis Bay does apply each year and has retained the status for 15 years. The status is to Hawkes Point where it meets Porthkidney Beach.

Is it safe to swim at Porthkidney

Swimming at Porthkidney Beach is generally safer during low tide. As with the ,majority of Cornish Beaches, it is best to swim  only between the red and yellow flags and when lifeguards are present. Like many of Cornwall’s famous surf beaches it  can have strong currents, especially near the Hayle Estuary where the water is often being used by Kite Surfers, paddle boarders, fly-boards and kayakers. https://www.beachpads.co.uk/water-sports/

Is it possible to fish at the location?

Porth Kidney Sands offers productive surf and channel fishing. Shifting sandbars and tidal gullies draw fish on the flood and into dusk, with the estuary mouth providing extra movement and food. Expect bass and flatfish through the warmer months, whiting and dabs in winter, and the chance of rays after dark.
